In its inaugural edition, Petfood Forum Brazil brought together professionals, experts, and leaders from the pet food industry for an afternoon of knowledge exchange, networking, and strategic insights about one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country.
Held in August as part of the PET South America program, Latin America’s leading pet industry trade show, the seminars covered topics ranging from consumer trends and pet owner behavior to advances in nutrition, formulation, processing and pet food safety, all with a focus on competitiveness and the future of Brazil’s production chain.
Among the featured presentations, José Edson Galvão de França, Chairman of the Board of Abempet, highlighted in his talk “Key trends and perceptions of Brazil’s pet food market” that the country is expected to surpass BRL 77 billion in revenue in 2025, consolidating its position as the third-largest pet market in the world. França also pointed out ongoing challenges such as high tax burdens and unequal access to quality nutrition, which continue to limit the sector’s full growth potential.
Fabiano Cesar Sá, Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine and R&D Manager at Adimax, presented data and innovations that are transforming the pet food industry. In his session, “Innovations and trends in pet food nutrition, processing and safety,” he discussed the growing use of functional ingredients such as prebiotics, probiotics and hydrolysates, as well as new processing technologies including extrusion, high pressure and freeze-drying. Sá also emphasized the increasing importance of sustainability and transparency as values driving consumer choices.
The event reinforced the importance of innovation, production efficiency and sustainability as key pillars for the industry’s advancement and underscored the crucial role of investment in research and technology in developing new products.
