Of the companies listed in Petfood Industry’s Top Companies database, the 41 listed below have publicly documented environmental or social programs.

Across these programs, a pattern emerged (see infographic). The most common sustainability starting points are factories and packaging. Companies prioritize energy efficiency, emissions reduction, waste control and recyclable materials. These initiatives offer the advantage of being comparatively measurable and directly manageable. Responsible supply chain sourcing, water stewardship and social programs are also widely adopted. However, fewer companies publish detailed goals for lowering the environmental footprint of recipes themselves.

The list is not exhaustive and may have missed some pet food brands’ sustainability contributions.
