Pet Summit 2025 spotlights actionable sustainability across the pet industry

The Pet Sustainability Coalition’s Impact Unleashed program at Pet Summit 2025 drew record attendance and focused on measurable environmental progress, responsible sourcing and zero-waste event goals.

The 2025 Pet Summit’s Impact Unleashed sustainability track convened more than 130 companies and broke attendance records for the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), said the organization. Held in Orlando for the first time, the two-day event focused on driving measurable environmental and social progress across the pet food and pet care industries.

Sessions included keynotes, expert panels and interactive workshops covering topics such as sustainable packaging, regenerative agriculture, responsible sourcing and ingredient transparency.

“We are so happy with the success of this year’s Pet Summit Impact Unleashed in Orlando,” said Jim Lamancusa, CEO of PSC. “Moving the event from Boulder was a big decision, and while we had some initial concerns, the record-breaking attendance and the incredible energy throughout the event proved it was the right move. This event wasn’t just about conversations; it was about action, collaboration, and accelerating the impact we can create together.”

Keynote speakers included Mia Davis with Ollie), Cheryl Baldwin with Pure Strategies), Penny Steinwagner with Morris Packaging, and Joanne Dwyer with PetSmart. The agenda also featured lightning talks and networking opportunities centered on connecting sustainability with business outcomes.

PSC partnered with the American Pet Products Association (APPA) to deliver the program as part of a broader effort to evolve Global Pet Expo beyond a traditional trade show.

“The presence and programming from PSC was extremely impressive and elevated the event beyond our expectations,” said Jeremy Baker, chief growth officer at APPA. “Our goal of making Global Pet Expo more than just a transactional trade show continues to advance through deep educational and networking events like Pet Summit.”

Event sustainability extended to operations as well. Printed materials were largely replaced with digital resources. When printing was required, PSC used Allied Printing, a facility powered by 75% on-site renewable energy and known for using vegetable-based inks and chemical recycling processes.

Food waste reduction was also a focus. PSC, in partnership with APPA, O-Town Compost, and local organizations Froot Farm and Everoak Farm, diverted nearly 1,000 pounds of waste — including 229 pounds of food waste composted during the cocktail hour. Food sourcing prioritized local and on-site hydroponic produce, helping reduce transportation emissions.

The event’s evening networking session was sponsored by Earth Animal and PetSmart, which supported a space for sustainability professionals to connect and collaborate.
