The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) has introduced an Annual Benchmark Assessment designed to help companies across the pet industry measure and advance their sustainability performance. Open to all sectors of the industry — including ingredient suppliers, manufacturers, brands, retailers and service providers — the tool evaluates environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices through a 30- to 60-minute online survey.

The assessment includes multiple-choice and short-answer questions covering areas such as sustainability strategy, environmental reporting, product materials, governance, workforce practices, value chain relationships and customer engagement.

PSC developed the benchmark to align with global frameworks such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The goal is to provide a credible but streamlined tool for companies in the pet space to voluntarily assess and report sustainability practices.

“We know that building a more sustainable pet industry takes all of us,” said Jim Lamancusa, CEO of PSC. “Our new benchmark is designed to make it easier for every company to understand their sustainability efforts and take meaningful next steps. We’re proud to open this tool to the entire pet community because real progress only happens when we work together.”

PSC members who complete the benchmark receive a complimentary one-on-one session with experts to review their results, highlight areas for improvement, and shape a strategic action plan. Data collected through the assessment will also inform PSC’s upcoming State of the Industry Report, offering a broader view of sustainability progress within the pet sector.
