Maka Pet has joined the wave of pet food product development in Mexico in 2022 by launching Maka, a new line of premium dry dog food and treats. Maka Pet is a company of Proan, a global leader in poultry production.
Maka is available in three different recipes, and the base formulation of each focuses on four health and wellness elements: the immune system, DHA (essential fatty acids), digestion, coat and skin protection.
Regarding the immune system, the recipes include a combination of highly bioavailable vitamins and antioxidants that strengthen the immune system and slow the oxidation effects of cells, according to Maka Pet. Resistant cells signify more capability to face infections and other ailments caused by the environment.
Maka dog foods also contain omega-3 fatty acids essential in brain development and the nervous system, and for improving a dog’s vision. As for the digestive system, the line incorporates fibers resistant to fermentation of the intestinal flora, leading to more efficient absorption of nutrients and, thus, improving the quality of feces, the company said.
Lastly, the line contains linoleic acid and zinc that help form a protective barrier to prevent water loss and dehydration of the skin. Some of the recipes are available for puppies, adults and senior dogs, and all are high in protein content, ranging from 26% to 30%, according to the company.
As Maka is part of a giant poultry producer, the brand emphasizes traceability as a strength of its product.
Maka developed a sales system through its online store, using a subscription format for regular customers and free delivery. The sales system aims to encourage repurchasing. The subscription offers complimentary features such as training e-books, personalized advice and other care suggestions for pets. Prices of dry dog food vary between US$5 and US$7 per kilo, depending on the formula and packaging size.
Maka is available only through Mercado Libre, an independent online non-specialty store, on the official Maka website.
