Big Heart Pet Brands plans to consolidate work done in its operations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, into its Orrville, Ohio, USA, headquarters, effective April 30, 2016, according to reports.
Closing of the Pittsburgh plant will affect about 225 workers. The company says relocation opportunities will be available to about 100 positions.
“We are committed to being fair to our employees including offering severance packages and company paid programs to those not relocating to assist in finding new employment,” said a statement from J.M. Smucker, parent company of Big Heart Pet Brands. “While difficult, this decision to consolidate our teams will allow us to leverage our existing systems infrastructure at our headquarters while promoting consistency and efficiency in our service to our consumers and customers.”
Many of the jobs at the Pittsburgh location are back-office functions, including accounting, finance, information technology and other service jobs.
