Recall of raw treats for Salmonella risk
Puppy Love and Puppy World brand raw pet treats were recalled in Canada after the Public Health Agency of Canada linked them to an outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg. The recall covers multiple bag sizes sold between February and October 2025, and at least six illness reports in Canada tied to the products.
Petfood Forum Asia 2025 attracts delegates from 17 countries
The one‑day Petfood Forum Asia 2025 conference in Bangkok on October 29 concluded with participants from 17 countries, including Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. Sessions addressed regional trends, ingredient innovation including marine microalgae oils, postbiotics, and processing‑waste reduction in treat extrusion.
Turkish producer secures investor for expansion
Çağatay Pet Food, based in İzmir, Turkey, has secured investment via the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and other partners to expand production capacity and upgrade technological infrastructure. The company currently has an annual capacity of approximately 45 000 tons and exports to around 55 countries; the investment amount was not publicly disclosed.
Fresh & raw brand opens human‑grade facility in Dubai
Furchild has invested over US $5 million to build a 15 000‑square‑foot production kitchen in Dubai that meets human‑food manufacturing standards (HACCP, ISO 22000), including batch traceability, X‑ray/metal detection, and automated vacuum‑sealing. The facility supports fresh‑and‑raw meals for dogs and cats, offering subscriptions, freeze‑dried treats and natural toppers across the Middle East region.
Renderers challenge Mexico’s feed‑ingredient tax under USMCA
The North American Renderers Association (NARA) has submitted formal comments ahead of the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) review, arguing that Mexico’s 16 percent value‑added tax on imported feed ingredients violates provisions on fair treatment, market access and non‑discrimination. A public hearing is scheduled for November 17, 2025, where the matter may be addressed.
Insect‑ingredient company appoints new CEO
Protix has named Maiko van der Meer as its new chief executive officer, effective November 2025. He brings nearly 30 years of leadership experience in major food and feed companies, and will lead Protix’s global expansion into aquafeed, livestock feed and pet‑food markets.
