
The Government of Canada has issued a recall for certain Puppy Love and Puppy World brand raw pet treats due to possible Salmonella contamination, affecting products sold in various bag sizes across the country.
The Public Health Agency of Canada’s ongoing outbreak of Salmonella infections investigation has determined the recalled pet treats contain Salmonella Oranienburg, posing a risk of cross contamination and illness after handling the pet treats.
The recall includes Puppy Love Beef Chew (4 pack, UPC 180140000730), Puppy Love Chicken Breast Treats (120g and 300g, UPCs 180140000143 and 180140000754), Puppy Love Chicken Wing Tips Treats (120g, UPC 883716000188), and Puppy World Lamb Lung Treats (150g, 340g, and 454g, UPCs 883716000720, 883716000737, and 883716000744). Puppy Love product packaging is predominantly black and red, while Puppy World product packaging is predominantly black and green.
Puppy Love Pet Products reported that 12,630 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between February and October 2025. As of October 20, 2025, the company has been made aware of six reports of illnesses in Canada. The investigation is ongoing.
Salmonella outbreak reported on October 16
A public health notice issued October 16 warned of an ongoing Salmonella outbreak linked to dog food and treats in Canada, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. The outbreak had sickened 31 people across four provinces and territories, with seven requiring hospitalization. No deaths have been reported. Cases have been identified in Alberta (14), British Columbia (14), Ontario (2) and Northwest Territories (1).
At the time, the Public Health Agency of Canada identified exposure to certain Puppy Love and Puppy World brand dog treats as a likely source for some illnesses.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, people became sick between mid-February and late-September 2025. Many reported handling dog food and treats before falling sick. At that time, a single common supplier had not been identified as the outbreak source, and no recall was issued.
