The North American Renderers Association (NARA) has awarded David Kaluzny II, of Kaluzny Bros., Inc., its highest honor, the 2024 Don Franco Distinguished Service Award, in recognition of his leadership and substantial contributions to the rendering and meat industries. Kaluzny’s career spans decades, marked by pivotal roles that have significantly shaped industry practices and policy both nationally and internationally.
Kaluzny served as chairman of the National Renderers Association (now NARA) from 2005 to 2007, a period where he guided the organization through critical challenges and supported initiatives for industry growth. He has also been instrumental as a member of the Executive Committees for both NARA and the Fats and Proteins Research Foundation (FPRF), where his vision for sustainability and innovation has driven impactful research and advancements.
His global influence includes his role as chairman of the World Renderers Organization (WRO), where he secured a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Organization for Animal Health, allowing the WRO observer status and furthering the rendering industry’s international engagement.
Kaluzny has also been active in regional industry leadership, serving as president of the Chicago Midwest Meat Association and the Food Beverage and Equipment Executives of Chicago. Currently, he chairs NARA's Legislative Action Committee, overseeing advocacy efforts that ensure the industry’s voice is represented in legislative matters, and leads the FPRF Nominating Committee, focusing on mentoring future industry leaders.
NARA President and CEO, Kent Swisher, praised Kaluzny’s contributions, stating, “David Kaluzny II exemplifies the commitment, innovation, and dedication that the Don Franco Award was established to recognize… David’s leadership sets a standard for excellence that will benefit the industry for generations to come.”
Kaluzny received the award from NARA Chairman Michael Glenn during the association’s 2024 Annual Convention in Santa Barbara, California.
