
Brenntag Specialties has begun operations at its new Innovation & Application Center in Leeds, UK, focused on food and nutrition research and development.
The facility will provide services for customer projects including ingredient selection, formulation guidance and applications development. Brenntag staff will work with customers and suppliers on concept and prototype development, customized formulation support, technical solutions and stability studies.

The center will concentrate on bakery, dairy, meat and plant-based products, ready meals, sauces and dips, beverages and nutrition for food manufacturers across the UK and Ireland.
Equipment at the facility includes MIWE and Combi Rational ovens, autoclave, meat grinder and tumbler, Stephan and Hobar mixers, Silverson dispersion units, Carpigiani ice cream machine, GEA homogenizer, sorbetto machine, waterbath for sous vide, vacuum sealer and canning machine. The center also features analytical equipment including texture analyzer, viscometer, colorimetry, microscopy, moisture analyzer, Brix, pH and water activity measurements.
The center is located in Lawnswood House of Lawnswood Business Park in North Leeds, adjacent to Brenntag's UK headquarters and existing personal care center. The company selected Leeds for both innovation centers due to proximity to existing operations, suppliers and customers in the region.
