Nasta Pet Food has acquired FirstMate Pet Foods, the company announced on LinkedIn. Founded in 1989 in British Columbia, FirstMate joins Nasta's portfolio of brands, which includes Bab'in, Forza 10 and Natural Code.

"This partnership brings together two family-owned companies that share the same beliefs: putting pets first, building brands with integrity, and creating sustainable value over time," Nasta Pet Food wrote in the announcement.

FirstMate operates a fully integrated manufacturing model and has positioned itself in the pet specialty retail channel. Nasta Pet Food noted it intends to support the brand's continued development "while fully respecting its identity, its teams, and the vision that has guided the brand for more than three decades."

Last November, Nasta's Bab'in brand introduced its product line to the U.S. market with a promotional event in New York City's Central Park, marking the company's 50th anniversary and first North American appearance.

Founded in 1975, Bab'in sources ingredients including duck, chicken, rice and lentils from regional suppliers in southern France. The company's recipes are developed by Biénès, a veterinary nutritionist and animal health specialist. Products contain no artificial colors or flavor enhancers.

The company said plans to expand its North American presence in 2026.
