Monic Group, the holding company of Montego Pet Nutrition, finalized its acquisition of Marltons Pet Care in late January 2026, bringing together two of South Africa's most established pet care companies.
Marltons, founded in 1945, joins Montego Pet Nutrition in the Monic Group portfolio. The company noted that the deal brings together more than a century of combined experience serving pet owners locally and internationally.
"This acquisition marks a significant step in Montego's ambition to globally champion Africa as an important player and pioneer in the global pet care industry," said Johan van Jaarsveld, managing director of Montego Pet Nutrition. "Marltons has spent 80 years building deep expertise in pet care — in areas that complement our core nutrition business. There is much we can learn from them, and together we'll have the resources and know-how to grow faster than either company could alone."
The two companies have an existing commercial relationship: Montego has supplied Marltons since 2018.
Gavin Miller, managing director of Marltons Pet Care, said the acquisition positions the brand for its next phase of growth.

"Montego brings exactly that — operational expertise, an expanding distribution network, and the backing of a committed family-owned group. By tapping into their logistics infrastructure, we can reach more retailers and customers more efficiently. This partnership gives us the platform to continue to grow and reach new heights."
According to Petfood Industry's Top Pet Food Companies, Montego Pet Nutrition was founded in early 2000 in Graaff-Renet, South Africa, the heart of the Karoo. The company offers several brands, with over 190 individual products distributing to 13 countries across AMEA.
