Earthborn Holistic Pet Food is marking Earth Month 2026 with updates across several sustainability initiatives, including milestones in its recycling and tree-planting programs.
UPCs for Trees
Through its UPCs for Trees program, Earthborn Holistic partners with Trees for the Future to plant trees in deforested areas. Customers collect UPCs from empty product bags and return them to participating retailers or mail them to a designated collection site, with one UPC equaling one tree planted.
"Since 2009, we've planted over 1.3 million trees through our program and helped put over 4,200 people on the pathway out of hunger and poverty," said Brandi Kramer, Midwestern Pet Foods marketing manager.
For Arbor Day, the brand also ran a social media campaign pledging to plant one tree for every comment received on its posts. The campaign resulted in more than 7,800 trees planted.
Packaging and recycling
All Earthborn Holistic dog food packaging is now made with 25% recycled material, using the ISCC mass balance approach, which tracks material flow in the chemical industry to support progress toward a circular and bio-based economy.
Through a partnership with TerraCycle, Earthborn Holistic pet food and treat bags are recyclable via the Earthborn ReBorn Program. Consumers drop off empty bags at participating retailers for recycling and upcycling at company expense. The program has surpassed 2 million bags recycled — the weight equivalent of more than 10 million single-use plastic bottles, according to the company.
Earth Month display contest
Earthborn Holistic also invited retailers to compete in an Earth Month in-store display contest featuring Earthborn products. Eli Campbell from Paws 'n Claws in Steamboat Springs, Colo., described the store's entry: "This off-shelf display that sits right at the entrance to our store was hand-painted by Beccy Brane at Paws 'n Claws, inspired by Earthborn's century-long commitment to pets and the planet. Drawing on that legacy, Beccy blended hand-painted earthy foliage and trees with a carefully arranged collage of Earthborn packaging, forming the shape of the globe.
"The result is a cohesive visual story that reflects Earthborn's shared values of holistic nutrition for pets and a thoughtful, practical approach to caring for our planet. As Beccy says, 'When you truly love the product and believe in the mission, it's easy to be inspired.'"
Kramer credited customers and retail partners for supporting the programs' continued growth. "At Midwestern Pet Foods, we love producing nutritious food for pets while simultaneously supporting sustainability," she said.
