As pet food markets in Asia continue to develop and grow – far outpacing growth in many other regions of the world – pet food producers are pursuing new business strategies and priorities. Petfood Forum Asia 2020, scheduled for March 25 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre, will feature pet food industry experts sharing their insights and expertise to help professionals from these companies learn ways to improve their product development and processes.

The information shared will cover new data and analysis on the market, branding, sustainability, palatability, proteins in pet food and pet food safety management. In addition, Petfood Forum Asia 2020 offers exclusive opportunities to network with leading pet food industry suppliers and other pet food professionals.

Petfood Forum Asia will be held in conjunction with Victam and Animal Health and Nutrition Asia 2020, a large agri-feed show and conference.

9:30-10:15          Welcome and opening session: Global and Asian pet food market update: the power of online shopping – Sunny Kyungsun Moon, food and nutrition consultant for Euromonitor International Korea, shares key data and trends driving growth in the hot Asian pet food market, including the rising influence of e-commerce, particularly among consumers in China and Korea.

10:15-10:55       At the crossroads of pet food brand and product – Marcel Blok, owner of Change Stranamics, puts marketing back into its proper and rightful place in the business process by highlighting how brand and product interrelate and are interdependent, using a hypothetical case study. In addition, he explains why brand and product are different in online and offline channels.

11:30-12:10       Eco-design: a practical method to sustainably innovate in pet food – Aurélie De Ratuld, Ph.D., CSR director for Diana Petfood, introduces a new approach for developing sustainable pet food products that takes into account their environmental performance through unique tools such as the Life Cycle Assessment and Eco-Design Matrix.

12:10-12:50       Reducing waste in extruder treat production – Paul Morlock, managing director, and Matthew Cottam, engineering director, for Frazer-Nash Manufacturing, examine the sources of waste in the extrusion of treats and what can be done to minimize or eliminate them. Variability in processing, particularly extruder output, is often poorly understood, but can be controlled and decrease costs.

14:00-14:40       Sustainability as a key driver of innovation: How can pet food become a game changer? – Paola Cane, Ph.D., CEO of Mia Solution, provides information to support companies in setting their strategic direction by looking to sustainability as a possible differentiator that is able to attract consumer trust and tie business growth to communities and the environment.

14:40-15:20       Kibble disc size and its effect on feline palatability – Kristopher Figge, senior technical sales manager, and Greg Hibbard, customer engagement scientist, for AFB International, present ongoing research focusing on feline palatability. This latest study sought to evaluate the potential effect of kibble disc size, following up previous research showing this disc shape was preferred most by cats.

15:45-16:25       Comprehensive review of the impacts of animal proteins in pet food – Will Henry, director of technology/R&D for Extru-Tech Inc., discusses in detail the multiple aspects of how pet food diets with above-normal inclusion rates of fresh meat impact the development, production and commercialization of the finished products.

16:25-17:05       Pet food safety management systems: introducing one system for all needs – David Rosenblatt, DVM, director of learning for Sher Consulting and Training, explains new 2019 requirements of FSSC 22000 and how these requirements can be efficiently and effectively aligned with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements for animal feed under the Food Safety Modernization Act.
