Earth Buddy is preparing for upcoming federal hemp regulation changes that will limit hemp content per container rather than per serving, requiring many multi-dose hemp pet products to be reformulated or removed from the market by December 2026.

Earth Buddy is urging pet retailers and consumers to track upcoming federal regulatory changes affecting plant-based pet products, and has begun reformulating some items in response.
Earth Buddy, which makes hemp-based pet products, said the changes stem from provisions tied to the 2018 Agricultural Improvement Act, also known as the farm bill, which established the current market for plant-based pet products.
In a recent blog post, the company said new limits under consideration would apply to an entire container rather than to an individual serving, meaning a 30 mL bottle would be held to the same limit whether it contains one dose or 60. Based on typical full-spectrum products, the company said, that threshold would prevent many multi-dose full-spectrum products from remaining on the market in their current form.
The Senate has voted for a continuing resolution that would push most of the provisions to Dec. 11, 2026, but the House has not yet acted on the measure, so the change is not yet finalized law.
Broad-spectrum versions of products
In response, Earth Buddy said it has begun developing broad-spectrum versions of several products. The company said the items are formulated and extracted in-house, which it said allows the reformulation work to proceed independently of a contract manufacturer's production schedule.
Products made without cannabinoids, including Earth Buddy's mushroom, colostrum and glutathione lines, are not affected by the regulatory changes, the company said.
Earth Buddy said it is providing educational resources and communication guides for retailers and consumers, and is encouraging industry members and the public to contact their representatives and share firsthand experiences through product reviews where appropriate. The company has also published a retailer-focused fact sheet outlining the proposed changes, relevant dates, affected products and legislative developments.
“Some of the loudest voices in this category, the ones with the boldest claims on the label back when claims were free, have had nothing to say since November,” said Sean Zyer, founder of Earth Buddy Pet. “Advocacy is harder than marketing. We built this category together, and it will not be kept by the companies waiting to see how it turns out.”
