Zuke’s Pet Nutrition, natural dog treats and supplements company, and Merrick Pet Care, a natural and organic pet food company, announced January 11 they are merging.

Details of Zuke’s merger with Merrick

Zuke’s is currently based in Durango, Colorado, USA and will continue to have a presence there as an innovation hub, given the company’s Colorado roots that serve as inspiration for its natural treat options. Other business functions will be consolidated within Merrick Pet Care, which is based in Amarillo, Texas, USA.

Both Zuke’s and Merrick are a part of the Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, based in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Merrick continues to operate independently from Purina. The integration is expected to be completed this spring.

Greg Shearson, CEO of Merrick Pet Care, said in a press release that this change serves to build one organization that is even stronger than the sum of its parts, dedicated to pet specialty.

“When you take our strong legacy and deep expertise in natural treats plus Merrick Pet Care’s premium, fast-growing brands, you have a terrific recipe for success in pet specialty,” said Brent Gleckler, general manager for Zuke’s Pet Nutrition, in a press release. “We’re looking forward to this next phase of our growth.”

“We are excited to have the Zuke’s business join our portfolio,” said Shearson. “This is a great fit as both Merrick and Zuke’s were built by passionate founders determined to provide optimal nutrition for pets. Together, we can better meet the growing demand for the highest quality pet food and treats.”
