The Pet Food Institute has pledged its support to closely monitor developments in the outbreak of the H1N1 "swine influenza" virus, and said there currently only appears to be human-to-human transmission, with no indication cats or dogs are affected.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , "there is no evidence to show that swine influenza can be transmitted through food. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit kills bacteria and viruses."
