On June 16, in the United Kingdom, the Food Standards Agency, Food Standards Scotland and Defra advised cat owners not to feed their pets specific recalled pet food products correlated to a rare blood disease. Since April 2021 there have been over 130 cases of feline pancytopenia, an illness that can often be fatal in cats, according to the Food Standards Agency. Pancytopenia is a rare condition where the number of blood cells (red, white and platelets) rapidly decrease, causing serious illness.
