Champion Pet Food, the only dry pet food producer in Cyprus, is advancing an investment to build a new warehouse with a surface area of approximately 1,000 square meters (10,760 square feet) next to the manufacturer's existing storage facility, according to a senior company representative.

"We are waiting to obtain a license so that we can start a new warehouse for our pet food line," Sophia Tsappis, daughter of the firm's founder, George Tsappis, and current manager of the family business, told Petfood Industry.

In addition to this expansion, the pet food business is also working to expand its international presence by entering a new prospective market in the Middle East, according to Tsappis.

"We are talking to some potential customers to enter the Saudi Arabian market," she said.

Launching sales in the Saudi market would mark an expansion of the pet food producer's existing foreign sales network, which covers Greece, the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon, according to data from the pet food company.

The Cypriot company's factory has a production capacity of around 5,000 tons per year. Champion Pet Food continues to purchase new machinery to increase its production and packaging capabilities.

"We are also waiting for some final elements to assemble the new flaker system," said Tsappis.

The company's entire manufacturing and storage complex in Dasaki Akhnas occupies a surface area of around 5,000 square meters (53,800 square feet)

Champion Pet Food's first product, Adult Ex maintenance dry dog food, is the company's bestseller and consists of chicken meat. Other offerings for canines also includes: Adult Superior with fish and carob; Puppy with chicken, carob and organic minerals; Ocean Blue with salmon; Small Breed with carob and chicken; and Energy+ with chicken, salmon and carob, among others.

Champion Pet Food's product range for cats comprises the following dry foods: Classic with chicken; Salmon Catch with salmon; and Super Cat with chicken and fish, among others.

Vafo expands Brit Premium by Nature offering

Czech pet food maker Vafo Group has announced that its brand Brit Premium by Nature has added a range of new collagen chewable treats to its portfolio.

"Brit Premium by Nature has responded to the need for a safer and better alternative with a new range of collagen-rich chewable treats in three different shapes: classic sticks, hollow tubes and waves," the company said in a statement. "The new range also includes tubes filled with turkey meat, which provide even more variety and enhance the menu with a nutritionally valuable option."

Vafo Group noted collagen is a natural part of dogs' bodies that makes up their joints, tendons, skin and coat. Brit Premium by Nature treats comprise approximately 70% bovine collagen. As a result, the treats contribute to dogs' "healthy movement, tendon elasticity and a beautiful coat. Due to its structure, it breaks down naturally and is easily digested, which is especially beneficial for dogs with sensitive digestive systems," said the company.

The new range of products contains turmeric, which offers anti-inflammatory properties, and natural peanut aromas that provide the treats with a delicate taste, Vafo Group said.

Vafo Group says it sells its products in more than 90 countries worldwide, which ranks it sixth among Europe's top ten largest pet food producers. In addition to Pooch & Mutt, some of Vafo's leading pet food and care brands include Brit, Carnilove, and Hau-Hau Champion, according to data released by the Czech company.
