Polish cat food producer 3coty has introduced new products to its growing range, and is readying to enter a number of new export markets.
Agnieszka Sobczyńska, a co-founder of 3coty, told Petfoodindustry.com that the company has rolled out three new products for senior and aging cats, and is making efforts to offer products for all life stages, from kitten to senior.
“Now we are readying to introduce new products under our care line. We receive many inquiries about food for cats with kidney diseases, and we are preparing to launch such a product that will be suitable for cats undergoing veterinary treatment,” Sobczyńska said.
“Poor kidney function is common in older cats all over the world. After obesity and diabetes, renal problems are some of the most common health issues we encounter. Owners rightly want to feed the best possible food to help their aging pets,” 3coty said in a statement. “With our reputation for developing cat foods focused on feline health, many customers have approached us about a product specifically directed at cats with renal problems. So here it is: our new number 53. Chicken + Duck Kidney Care.”
The brand says its monoprotein and duoprotein “superpremium” cat food is ideal for cats with diabetes and various types of allergies.
Owing to its “100% meat composition and balanced ingredients, 3coty food can be given to cats with digestive hypersensitivity, food allergies, diabetes, and as a substitute for BARF,” according to the Polish brand.
While sales in Europe remain the company’s main focus, with countries such as Finland, Norway, Poland, Italy, and France generating a large share of 3coty’s revenue, the business is also making efforts to enter new foreign markets.
Marcin Kindler, a co-founder of 3coty, told Petfoodindustry.com that the business is one of the first Polish pet food companies which managed to secure a license to kick off sales in China.
“We are in the process of securing a partner to distribute our cat food in the Chinese market,” Kindler said. “At the same time, we are also advancing plans to enter other markets abroad, such as the United Arab Emirates.”
3coty specializes in cat food made in 100 percent with the use of poultry meet, manufactured at the company’s production facility in Pruszków, in Poland's central part.
Dutch watchdog investigates unfair pricing practices by pet food producers
In a bid to combat unfair market practices, The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has issued a warning to a group of nine unnamed dog food makers, warning them to abandon practices to impose the prices of their products on retailers.
“The ACM warns various suppliers who sell dog food. They have influenced the sales prices of their products that are sold by pet shops, thereby keeping prices artificially high. The ACM monitors whether the companies that have been warned now comply with the rules,” the watchdog said in a statement.
The watchdog said it has discovered instances in which the nine companies attempted to keep the prices of their products artificially high. In some cases, dog food producers have been trying to influence the prices applied by pet shops through wholesalers. The ACM said that this is a forbidden practice in the Dutch market, and entities that engage in it, both pet food makers and distributors, can be imposed fines of up to €900,000 (US$970,000) or as much as 40 percent of their turnover.
“Retailers must independently determine the prices of the products in their store or online store. Suppliers may therefore not exert pressure on retailers to increase the consumer price,” said Martijn Snoep, the chairman of the ACM.
“Dog owners want the best for their dog. They may therefore be more willing to open their wallets. It seems as if suppliers in this sector are taking advantage of this. Dog owners are the victims of this,” according to Snoep.
