ORIJEN enters fresh pet food market with new product line

FRESHPREY features a sous vide cooking process and whole-prey ingredient philosophy across three recipes.

ORIJEN is expanding into the fresh pet food segment with the launch of FRESHPREY, a line of gently cooked recipes designed around the brand's WholePrey philosophy.

Each recipe lists fresh or raw animal ingredients — including meat, organs and bone — among the first five ingredients. The products are cooked using a sous vide process, which ORIJEN said preserves nutrient density and flavor.

"For us, this is more than just a product launch; it's the culmination of relentless passion and research," said Mark Fannin, global vice president of ORIJEN. "We know pet parents would climb mountains for their companions. We share that devotion and channeled it into creating the highest-quality fresh pet food possible. FRESHPREY embodies that spirit, delivering biologically appropriate nutrition to help pets live the vibrant, active lives they deserve."

Orijen | Chamption PetfoodsFRESHPREY will launch exclusively at Petco this month before expanding to Chewy.com and other pet specialty retailers in April. The line is available in 16-oz. packs and seven-count boxes in three recipes: Beef, Pork & Lamb; Turkey, Salmon & Pork; and Chicken & Duck.

To mark the launch, ORIJEN partnered with pet influencers Wander with Willow for what the brand called the "World's Most Extreme Unboxing," an expedition to 12,000 feet in Colorado's Red Mountains.

According to Petfood Industry's Top Pet Food Companies, ORIJEN is a flagship brand of Champion Petfoods. Champion Petfoods produces both Orijen and Acana, featuring ingredients produced in their own kitchens. In 2023, Champion Petfoods was acquired by Mars Petcare, although it continues to operate as the manufacturer for Orijen.
