Standard Process has added Canine Cognition Support to its Veterinary Formulas line, a powdered supplement designed to support brain health and cognitive function in aging dogs.

The company said the product targets behavioral changes associated with canine cognitive decline, including disorientation, altered social interactions, disrupted sleep-wake cycles, loss of learned behaviors, changed activity levels and anxiety — collectively referred to by the acronym DISHAA.

Available exclusively through veterinary practices, Canine Cognition Support is formulated with Ginkgo Biloba, B vitamins, beta-glucans from Lion's Mane Mushroom extract, Panax Ginseng and CoQ10. According to the company, the combination of antioxidants, botanicals and herbs is intended to support multiple pathways involved in brain health, including circulation, neurotransmitter production and cellular energy metabolism.

The supplement also includes Swiss chard and buckwheat grown on the Standard Process Certified Organic Farm, which the company said supports full traceability from soil to scientific testing to finished supplement.

"While pet owners may not be familiar with the clinical signs associated with aging dogs, they often recognize when their dog is slowing down, or no longer seems like themselves," said Katrina Verdeur, MS in food science and pet product development manager at Standard Process. "Whole food-based, targeted supplementation plays a meaningful role in supporting these canines through age-related cognitive changes. We developed Canine Cognition Support to serve as the comprehensive solution pet parents need to support cognitive health span, and quality of life, for our beloved senior dogs."
