United Petfood, an international pet food manufacturer headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, has purchased the Jupiter production facility in Drummondville, Quebec, from Legault Group, a family business with more than 170 pet industry retail stores across Canada.

The acquisition marks United Petfood's first dry manufacturing plant in Canada. The company had previously served the Canadian market through export activities.

Dries Eeckhout, United Petfood Group CEO, noted the factory is very well invested with the newest petfood production technology and offers possibilities for further expansion. "We continue to see interesting opportunities for growth in both the Canadian market and internationally," said Eeckhout.

The Jupiter facility, which began operations in 2023, produces several lines of dry pet food. United Petfood said the plant is located near its existing dry production site in the U.S.

"This acquisition allows us to better serve our customers with locally produced, high-quality pet food," said Dominiek Dumoulin, United Petfood Group president.

In March 2026, United Petfood and Lider Petfood acquired a dry production facility in Kırklareli, Türkiye, from the Maya Family Pet Foods. The facility spans more than 30,000 square meters and is located near Istanbul, positioning both companies to serve markets in Eastern Europe as well as domestic Turkish demand.

According to Petfood Industry's Top Pet Food Companies, United Petfood produces dry and wet pet food, biscuits and snacks for cats and dogs for private label customers and brand owners. The company operates plants in Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Romania, the U.S., Turkey, France, Poland, the U.K. and the Netherlands, and is active in more than 100 countries. The company reported annual turnover in excess of €1.6 billion (approximately US$1.75 billion).
