  • Cold-Pressing Benefits: The process preserves nutrients, flavor, and ingredient integrity without high heat or steam, creating nutrient-dense food that breaks down quickly during digestion
  • Key Ingredients: Chicken recipe includes chicken, pumpkin, carrots, sweet potato, and salmon oil; both recipes contain seaweed for digestive support
  • Market Context: Cold-pressed dog food has been successful in Europe for over a decade but remains newer in the U.S. market

American Pet Nutrition (APN) is adding cold-pressed dog food to its Supreme Source brand, with new chicken and salmon recipes launching at Walmart and Food Lion.

Cold pressing differs from traditional extrusion in that it does not use high heat or steam, which the company said helps retain the nutrients, flavor and integrity of the ingredients. The process creates a nutrient-dense food that breaks down quickly during digestion, allowing dogs to receive concentrated nutrition in smaller portions, according to APN.

"Pet parents are increasingly interested in not only what's in their dog's food, but how that food is made," said Ryan Wilson, CEO of American Pet Nutrition. "Cold pressing allows us to offer a different approach to dry dog food that preserves more of what makes those ingredients valuable. It's a format that has been successful in Europe for years, and we're excited to work with Walmart and Food Lion to make it more accessible to pet parents here in the U.S."

Two recipes available this fall

Supreme Source Cold Pressed Dog Food will begin arriving at select Walmart stores nationwide in September as part of the retailer's pet food assortment, followed by all Food Lion locations in October. The products will also be available at Walmart.com.

The launch includes two recipes: Supreme Source Cold Pressed Chicken Recipe Dog Food and Supreme Source Cold Pressed Salmon Recipe Dog Food. The chicken recipe includes chicken, pumpkin, carrots, sweet potato and salmon oil. Both recipes include seaweed, which APN said supports digestion and nutrient absorption.

Cold-pressed dog food has been sold in Europe for more than a decade but remains a newer format in the U.S., where it is positioned as an alternative to traditional kibble.

The launch is part of APN's continued expansion into grocery and mass retail channels.
