Pet Food Experts (PFX), a pet specialty distributor in the U.S., added the Unconditional dog food brand to its portfolio in all regions as of Oct. 1.
Unconditional’s recipes are protein-focused, with 80% of the protein coming from animal ingredients. The recipes contain no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, and no corn, wheat or soy.
The company has spent 25 years developing its air-drying method, a slow, low-heat process it said is done largely by hand. The Unconditional portfolio includes 100% air-dried complete diets, grain-free blends that pair high-protein kibble with air-dried inclusions, and functional toppers. The products are shelf-stable and require no freezing, thawing or preparation.
Unconditional said it set out to offer higher-nutrition options at a lower price point. The family-owned company manufactures its products in California, where it keeps more of its production process in-house and air-dries ingredients on site.
“This isn’t just a business to me,” said Avrum Elmakis, founder of Unconditional. “It’s personal. Good dog food exists, but it’s rare and usually priced out of reach. Unconditional is my answer — proof that you don’t have to choose between feeding your dog real food and keeping a real budget.”
Retailers can order Unconditional products through PFX Marketplace.
