Meatly, a UK-based cultivated meat producer, has relocated to Grapht Works, Imperial College London's pilot and advanced manufacturing site in North Acton, London, as it prepares to begin production at its first manufacturing facility in 2027.
The move follows Meatly's £10.4 million (US$13.7 million) Series A funding round announced in May and is part of the company's plans to expand cultivated meat production for the pet food industry.
Grapht Works is London's first dedicated pilot and demonstration manufacturing facility, designed to support technology companies transitioning from research and development to commercial production. The site is part of Imperial College London's Old Oak Innovation Cluster within WestTech London and provides industrial space for businesses to develop, test and scale manufacturing processes.
"Moving to Grapht Works is a significant step as we prepare to scale cultivated meat and become fully operational next year," said Owen Ensor, CEO of Meatly. "We will be creating Europe’s largest cultivated meat facility and begin the move to large scale production."
"Imperial has created the perfect space and community for innovators like Meatly who are making the transition from R&D to commercialization, and we’re looking forward to growing together at Grapht Works as we work to make cultivated meat more widely available for pets," Ensor added.
Building cultivated meat manufacturing capacity
Founded in 2022, Meatly develops cultivated meat specifically for pet food applications. Following UK regulatory authorization in 2024, the company became the first to sell cultivated meat in Europe, launching its first cultivated pet food product in 2025.
Meatly has developed proprietary bioreactors and culture medium intended to reduce production costs and support commercial-scale manufacturing.
Alice Sewell, investment director at Imperial College London, said the Grapht Works facility was developed to help emerging industrial companies establish manufacturing operations in the UK.
"Our investment in Grapht Works was built on a belief that this is where the UK’s next generation of industrial companies could be built, if they had the right infrastructure," Sewell said. "With Meatly taking this step towards full scale production in 2027, it shows that our vision is starting to be realized."
Sewell also emphasized the importance of retaining manufacturing capabilities and associated economic activity in the region.
"Cultivated meat is exactly the kind of frontier industry the UK should be anchoring, and by backing the space that enables companies like Meatly to scale, we’re helping to make sure the jobs, manufacturing capability and economic value they create stay in London and the wider WestTech London ecosystem," she said.
"It’s rewarding to see a pioneering business like this move from R&D towards production in Old Oak, and Meatly’s growth is further evidence of the strong demand we’re seeing from deep tech companies that want to scale and stay in London," Sewell added.
