The Chinese pet food market reached US$1.5 billion in sales in 2017, making it now the 12th largest pet food market globally. Its 27 percent compound annual growth rate was spurred by a robust 40.7 percent increase in online sales of pet food from 2016-2017, a period when nearly 48 percent of pet food sales in China occurred online.

While traditionally dominated by multinational pet food companies, the Chinese market also includes a rapidly growing number of domestic producers. The market is moving toward premiumization, too, with the average price per kilo of pet food increasing 19 percent in only three years, according to GfK. Natural pet food now comprises 27 percent of the market, with grain free accounting for another 6 percent.

This year the show will comprise 10 halls with 140,000 square meters of exhibit stands and at least 1,300 exhibitors, including an area featuring pet food and treat manufacturers from China and throughout the world.
