Instinct Pet Food will celebrate its new Center of Excellence (CoE) expansion at a ribbon cutting event on June 5 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The company said the completion of Phase One of the CoE marks a significant milestone in Instinct’s journey toward a more sustainable future, which it said includes more raw, minimally processed pet food for dogs and cats everywhere.

Founded in 2002 in Lincoln, Instinct is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, and produces a variety of foods for dogs and cats, with a primary focus on frozen and freeze-dried raw meals. It has been producing frozen and freeze-dried raw recipes in Lincoln for over 20 years. The company said the investment demonstrates Instinct’s confidence in the future of Lincoln and in the growth of the natural, raw pet food category

Instinct said the CoE expansion will enable it to make more raw pet food  more quickly to satisfy the growing demand for high-quality, healthy feeding solutions.

Instinct has been a raw leader since their start in 2002 and said this project builds on their raw heritage with a state-of-the-art, sustainably built facility. The CoE is LEED certified, making Instinct one of the few pet food manufacturing plants in the U.S. with this globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.

Along with LEED certification, the CoE has consolidated work to a single campus that had previously been done across multiple locations. By consolidating campuses and other process improvements, its carbon footprint will be reduced by 272,000 pounds annually. Also as a part of their sustainability journey, Instinct is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050, with ambitious plans for 2030.

The opening of the CoE marks the completion of Phase One construction. All phases are expected to be complete by March 2025.
