Spain's Cotecnica has announced the agri-food cooperative closed its 2025 financial year with revenue of some €169.2 million (US$195.2 million), up 7% year-on-year, with the development of the flagship Ownat pet food brand serving as one of the main driving forces behind its development.

Last year, Ownat reported a 19% revenue increase compared with the preceding financial year. Owing to those positive results, the brand maintained its double-digit annual growth rate, and also expanded its share of the cooperative's entire pet food business to as much as 76%, local industry news site IMveterinaria.es reported.

Encouraged by its increasing sales, in 2025, Cotecnica invested some €10 million with the aim to enhance its research and development capacities and support further growth with innovative products. As part of these efforts, the cooperative's key initiative was related to the opening of a new laboratory. Other projects were related to improving Cotecnica's operational and industrial process optimizations.

Based in Lleida, in Spain's eastern autonomous community of Catalonia, Cotecnica says that, in addition to its domestic market, the cooperative exports products to more than 40 countries worldwide.

Cotecnica says that, benefiting from "fresh, natural and local ingredients … [sourced from] our unbeatable location in an agricultural area, the plain of Lleida" the cooperative produces "premium and super-premium real food with natural ingredients for pets."

Currently, around 66% of the cooperative's pet food sales are generated by exports, whose share in Cotecnica's revenues continues to grow. Over the past five years, the Spanish business has expanded its international revenue by as much as 267%.

Some of Cotecnica's foreign markets include Belgium, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Taiwan and Tunisia.

Alongside Ownat, the cooperative also sells its pet food under a number of other brands, including Cotagro, Pylkron and Brokaton, according to data released by Cotecnica.
