Mars has officially introduced Temptations cat treats in Mexico, moving the brand from limited availability through online marketplaces and imported products into broader, organized retail distribution.
The launch gives Mars access to a category that is now much more developed than it was only a few years ago. However, the mass-market cat treat occasion in Mexico was largely opened by Inaba with Churu, a wet, creamy product that is very different from Temptations in format, texture and consumption experience.
Churu created the consumption occasion
For many years, the Mexican cat treat category was trapped by the absence of a clear consumption occasion. Owners frequently rewarded cats with wet food, while dedicated treats remained secondary, poorly understood or limited to specialized channels.
Churu helped change that structure. Its disruptive creamy format created a visible interaction between owner and cat and turned rewarding into a distinct moment rather than simply another feeding occasion. Inaba did not just introduce a successful product; it helped establish indulgence and treat-giving as recognizable behaviors in the Mexican cat food market.
That shift is important for Temptations. Mars no longer needs to explain why cats should receive treats. The consumption occasion already exists, owners are more familiar with indulgent products, and the category has demonstrated that it can move beyond niche pet shops.
Mars brings distribution scale
Temptations was already known in Mexico through e-commerce platforms and imported products, but it was not previously available as a broadly distributed, locally supported brand.
Its main advantage now will be Mars' distribution capability. The company already reaches supermarkets, mass merchandisers, convenience-oriented retail formats and pet specialty channels across the country. This gives Temptations the potential to move quickly beyond major urban centers and reach a much wider base of cat owners.
The brand's crunchy format also allows it to occupy a different space from creamy treats such as Churu. Rather than competing only through direct substitution, Temptations can expand the category by adding another reward occasion.
Mars may have arrived late, but it is entering a market that is finally ready. With an established consumption occasion, a globally recognized brand and one of the strongest distribution networks in Mexico, Temptations appears well positioned to achieve rapid penetration.
