While selling pet food through mass market retailers, such as Amazon.com, isn’t new for Stella & Chewy’s, a raw, natural pet food brand, the brand’s products haven’t been available in pet specialty retailer Petco. In January 2023, Stella & Chewy’s will begin selling its products in Petco’s brick and mortar locations, on Petco.com and through the retailer’s smartphone app, reported Pet Business. According to the report, independent pet retailers will continue to have exclusive access to more than 120 of Stella & Chewy’s products. Stella & Chewy’s will also continue marketing efforts focused on driving demand and traffic to neighborhood pet retailers.

About Stella & Chewy’s

Stella & Chewy's manufactures frozen and freeze-dried raw dinners and treats for dogs and cats, according to Petfood Industry’s Top Pet Food Company’s Current Data. The company headquarters is in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA, and has two manufacturing facilities, totaling 215,000 square-feet. The raw pet food company’s annual revenue in 2021 reached US$52,400,000. The company employed 635 people in its two facilities.

Freeze-dried/raw pet food segment continues to grow

Freeze-dried/raw pet food continues to grow in popularity among pet parents, in spite of the undeniably higher price tag of the finished products, reported Petfood Industry magazine. That price tag would be a significant barrier to entry, but has been made more manageable by pet owners themselves, who are using freeze-dried/raw options not necessarily as complete meals, but as toppers, mix-ins and treats alongside more traditional pet food options. In turn, those dealing in the freeze-dried/ raw space are providing options that suit this use in order to play in a segment that isn’t quite as crowded as kibble.
