- UK manufacturer Butternut Box acquired PsiBufet in 2023 and has invested in production and logistics capacity.
Polish pet food producer PsiBufet has kicked off sales in neighboring Slovakia, establishing a presence in another European market after expanding into the Czech Republic and Italy, among others.
“We want to reach as many dog owners in Slovakia as possible with our educational content and products, particularly those whose dogs have not yet had the opportunity to try fresh meals,” said Piotr Wawrysiuk, founder of PsiBufet and the company’s managing director for Europe, in a statement.
PsiBufet says it focuses its activities on producing fresh, individually tailored food for dogs, delivered directly to pets in a direct-to-consumer model. UK dog food manufacturer Butternut Box took over the Polish brand in 2023.
Since the acquisition, Butternut Box has invested in ramping up its production and logistics capacities in Poland. “Fresh meals are delivered to dogs’ bowls in Slovakia directly from our new Sam’s Kitchen factory in Zabrze [in south-western Poland], which has become the logistics hub of the Butternut Box Group,” the statement said.
Vafo Group-Prima Pet invests in sustainable transport
The Czech Republic’s Vafo Group has announced that, in a bid to make its activities sustainable, its Finnish subsidiary Prima Pet is cutting the environmental impact of its operations.
“Through its long-term cooperation with logistics partner Kaukokiito and the use of renewable diesel, the company achieved an 88.4% reduction in emissions from domestic transportation between January and July 2026 compared to transport using fossil fuels,” Vafo Group said in a statement.
Prima Pet’s portfolio of pet food brands includes Hau-Hau, PrimaCat, PrimaDog and Dagsmark, according to data from Vafo Group.
“Kaukokiito is an important partner for us, and our cooperation also supports our sustainability goals,” said Tiina Wemberg, a sustainability specialist at Prima Pet, in a statement. “It is really important that emission reductions can be measured. The data we receive shows the concrete impact of our choices.”
Zooplus expands with Spanish marketplace launch
As part of its ongoing international expansion, Munich-based Zooplus has launched a new marketplace in Spain, making available about 10,000 additional products to customers in one of Europe’s largest markets.
“As we bring our marketplace to more countries, we are also seeing momentum in the markets where we are already live,” said Pierre-Yves Delforge, the company’s chief merchandising officer, in a statement. “This growth underscores the power of marketplaces to help us respond to what pet parents want most, broaden choice and give great brands a way to reach more customers across Europe. Spain is another exciting step, with plenty more to come.”
Of the 10,000 products, a dominant share falls within the pet accessories segment, which has become particularly popular among customers in various European markets, according to data from the German business.
Zooplus had already launched marketplaces in Germany and France, two of its key European markets, before expanding into Spain. “Since launching in Germany, we have tripled our marketplace selection and more than doubled the number of sellers on the platform,” according to Delforge. “Across our marketplaces, we have also improved assortment breadth, increasing the number of categories sold by close to 4x.”
He said that, with its latest move, Zooplus is advancing efforts to unlock categories that its customers “really want, like fresh and frozen food. In fact, fresh and frozen has become our top-selling marketplace category in Germany and France, and now represents more than 10% of German marketplace sales.”
The business says it has operated in e-commerce for pet supplies since 1999. Zooplus runs dedicated online stores in about 30 European countries, according to its data.
