Peel Plastics Products Ltd, a Canadian company that makes pouches used in the dog and cat food industry, announced plans to add a second facility. This CAD$20 million (US$15.1 million) investment in Brampton, Ontario, Canada is located a short distance away from the current facility and corporate headquarters.
The building will be renovated in two phases for the production of plastic bags, including pet food packaging. In the first stage, 50,000 square feet will be ready for production in early 2017. The second phase, which will complete the balance of the 165,000 square foot building, will be finished by early 2018.
The company stated in a press release that the new facility will better position Peel Plastics to support the growth of both new and existing plastic pet food bag customers for years to come.
“We have always felt that the service we offer our customers is the expertise of our workforce,” said David Troost, Peel Plastics general manager, about the decision to stay in Brampton, in a press release. “Strategically, we always wanted to stay in Brampton so that we could maintain that focus on team member development, engagement and well-being. By having our second facility less than 2 kilometers [1.2 miles] away, we can keep focusing on how the integration of complex technologies gives our customers the competitive edge that they need for their businesses.”
Peel Plastics will add approximately 50 new jobs over the next 18 months with plans to add more in the future to help support the new facility.
While cat trends continue, the pandemic has added to overall slow-growth treatment of the cat food market.
