A reality TV star’s pet food, SparkleDog, may be causing nausea and diarrhea in dogs, according to Amazon.com reviews. However, many of the negative reviews did not come from verified purchases, and other consumers reported no issues. Kameron Westcott, a cast member of “The Real Housewives of Dallas,” launched the dog food, which features pink hearts.

Negative reviews on Amazon.com

One review claimed that a constipated Bulldog found relief after eating the pink and brown kibble, but the cure was worse than the disease.

“…after feeding my bulldog this ‘food,’ she had completely blown out her *** and had diarrhea everywhere!!!!” the reviewer wrote. “Just a tip for others buying this ‘food,’ make sure you buy a tarp to keep your dog on, cause you will have diarrhea everywhere!!!”

Another review cast doubt on the numerous positive reviews for Sparkledog.

“Please also note that most of the positive reviews are not verified purchases,” they wrote.

However, neither that review nor the one about needing a tarp were from verified purchases of dog food on Amazon either. There were only nine reviews from verified purchasers as of October 27. All of those reviews were positive.

Reality TV star dog food brand

SparkleDog was designed to appeal to women, according to the company’s website. The package features a Yorkshire Terrier on the mostly pink front of the bag. The Yorkie is modeled after Westcott’s own dog.

SparkleDog is marketed as grain-free with no corn, wheat or soy. The dog food is made in the U.S. with chicken as the first ingredient.

The Susan G Komen Foundation will receive support from SparkleDog for every eight-ounce bag sold, although the amount of the donation is not stated.
