Whitebridge Pet Brands, a maker of natural and minimally processed pet foods, treats and complements, completed the acquisition of pet food, treat and product company Cardinal Laboratories, Inc. (Cardinal Pet Care), makers of Pet Botanics, Crazy Dog, Full Life for Pets, Remedy+Recovery, Gold Medal Pets and Only Healthy Source pet treats, grooming products and health aids.

Whitebridge Pet Brands is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Cardinal Pet Care’s office is in Azusa, California.

Cardinal Pet Care was founded in 1948. Tony de Vos acquired an interest in 1972 and led the business as President since 1982. Cardinal is distributed throughout North America and around the globe. De Vos was a founding member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition of which he remains a leader.

Whitebridge Pet Brands, led by CEO Olivier Amice, was founded in January 2015 with the merger of Cloud Star, a pet treat manufacturer and Petropics, maker of Tiki Cat and Tiki Dog. In April 2017, Whitebridge Pet brands acquired Dogswell, a brand of functional jerky for dogs.

“At Whitebridge Pet Brands, our team shares a passion for pets and the belief that natural and minimally processed nutrition positively impacts the health and happiness of dogs and cats,” said Amice in a press release. “We are very excited that the Cardinal Pet Care family of brands, including Pet Botanics and Crazy Dog, will be joining Whitebridge Pet Brands’ portfolio, as their combined strength in the training treats category is complementary to our commitment to happy pets in loving homes. This fourth acquisition gives Whitebridge Pet Brands the ability to leverage our combined structure to provide better service for our customers and to accelerate our overall growth.”

Other acquisitions by Whitebridge Pet Foods

In 2017, Whitebridge Pet Brands acquired Arthur Dogswell, maker of Dogswell and Nutrisca treats and foods for dogs and cats. Dogswell was founded in 2004 by Marco Giannini, who grew up with a German shepherd named Emily. Emily developed hip dysplasia and the unpleasant experience of giving her pills helped Marco realize the idea to add functional benefits in pet treats.
