Lily’s Kitchen expands into China, FY21 expects US$2M

The company expects sales in China to reach US$2.06 million (GBP1.5 million) by the end of fiscal year 2021.

Premium natural dog and cat food brand Lily’s Kitchen expanded into China through a distribution agreement with Penefit International, the company announced on LinkedIn.

Euromonitor International valued China’s pet food market at approximately US$1.7 billion in 2017. The market research firm forecast that figure will rise to US$6.1 billion in 2022. Of that, US$2.7 billion may be spent on dog kibble and US$1.3 billion on dry cat food in 2022.

London-based Lily’s Kitchen plans to use social media platforms such as WeChat to reach and engage pet owners in the country, reported Pet Business World. The company forecast sales in China to reach US$2.06 million (GBP1.5 million) by the end of fiscal year 2021. Lily’s Kitchen retails through e-commerce platforms such as Tmall and jd.com. Sales began in June 2020. Lily’s Kitchen executives expects China to grow into a main export markets for natural cat food. Lily’s Kitchen is available throughout Europe, the Middle East and other Asian countries, including Japan, Singapore and South Korea. In Europe this year, Lily’s Kitchen established distribution deals with:

  • Eldorado in Scandanavia,
  • Maravet in Romania,
  • Laboratoire Agecom in France,
  • Van der Meer in The Netherlands,
  • Hega in Germany and
  • increased distribution with Fressnapf in Germany and Switzerland.

Lily's Kitchen pet food is manufactured with all-natural, organic ingredients and packaged in recyclable containers (including the dry pet food bags). In 2014, the company launched Lily's By Lily's Kitchen, a brand only available in Tesco stores. Lily's Kitchen owns three warehouses and outsources manufacturing to five factories. Lily's Kitchen's founder released a cookbook in 2012 titled "Dinner for Dogs."
