Unlike dental chews or brushing routines, Dental Dust is designed to be sprinkled directly onto a pet's regular food, giving pet owners a way to add oral care to their daily feeding routine.
Addressing a widespread health issue
Dental disease is the most common health issue among dogs, affecting more than 80% of dogs by age three, according to Cornell University's Riney Canine Health Center. Left unaddressed, plaque hardens into tartar, leading to gingivitis, periodontal disease and other health risks, including elevated risks to the heart, liver and kidneys from chronic oral bacteria and inflammation.
"Dental health is one of the most overlooked areas of a dog's overall wellness," said Dr. Timothy Hunt, founder and DVM at Dr. Tim's Pet Food. "We wanted to move beyond the idea that dental health means scrubbing teeth after the damage is already done. Dental Dust works with the body, not just the mouth, to support healthier gums and a balanced oral microbiome every single day. It's dental care built into a bowl of food, not another chore for pet owners."
A nutritional approach to oral care
Dental Dust is formulated with functional proteins and bioactive ingredients intended to work systemically, not just mechanically, to support a healthier mouth:
- Porcine plasma proteins — naturally occurring immunoglobulins and bioactive peptides that support the mouth's natural immune defenses, extending benefits from the mouth to the digestive tract.
- PRIOME OC (ADM's Oral Care Postbiotic) — a clinically studied, heat-treated postbiotic (Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CECT 9161) studied for its potential to help reduce dental plaque formation and support a balanced oral microbiome.
- North Atlantic kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum) — a natural ingredient whose bioactive compounds are absorbed during digestion and secreted into saliva, helping make the oral environment less hospitable to plaque and tartar buildup.
- Freeze-dried beef liver — added for palatability.
The ingredients are formulated to support a healthier oral microbiome, addressing biofilm before it calcifies into tartar within 24 to 48 hours, according to the company.
"So many pet owners think bad breath is just something you live with," Hunt said. "Dental Dust gives owners an easy way to support their pet's health at every meal, without an extra step, an extra chew or a fight at the sink."
