Ion-exchanged clay in feed can display antibiotic properties

Clay may represent one feed additive alternative for preventative antibiotics in the future.

The future of antibiotics in agriculture is a hot topic that may have a variety of solutions, with many experts pointing to feed additives as a saving grace. Dr. Gündüz İlsever, who has worked for years selling vaccines and feed additives and has a Ph.D. in poultry husbandry, believes clay to be a promising substitute for antibiotics in the future.

"We need to stop. ... We are growing our broilers fast, but we are starting to do damage we can't take back," he said at the Feed Strategy Seminar held at Health & Nutrition Asia in Bangkok in March.
