German model estimates limits for 'forever chemicals' in feeds

Researchers have used modeling to establish the concentrations of PFAS considered safe in feeds for farm animals, and potentially guide future regulation of the feed industry in this area.

Feed is key to compliance with maximum levels of PFAS in animal feeds, according to a recent report from Germany’s Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, BfR.

Used in many industrial processes and products, per- and polyfluroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widely present in the environment. Slow to break down and with a tendency to accumulate in the environment, the group’s common name is “forever chemicals.”
