FEFAC: New labeling code will help livestock producers curb emissions

The voluntary labeling guidance will simplify and harmonize communications about the environmental performance of animal feed, FEFAC says.

Recent updates to the EU Code for livestock feed labeling represent a major milestone toward sustainable feed and livestock production via improved communication of environmental claims, FEFAC president Pedro Cordero said in an interview with Feed Strategy.

The EU Code of Good Labelling Practice for Compound Feed for Food Producing Animals, which is maintained jointly by FEFAC and Copa-Cogeca, was revised in 2024 to include new, voluntary Green Feed Labelling Guidelines aimed at simplifying and harmonizing communications regarding environmental claims. The guidelines are based on the Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) for calculating the environmental footprint of animal feed, which were updated in February.
