KSU-IGP offers pet food formulation course for commercial production

Kansas State University’s (KSU) International Grains Program (IGP) Institute is offering a virtual Pet Food Formulation for Commercial Production January 6-10, 2025.

This 5-day virtual course will meet synchronously via Zoom. Some materials will be posted in an online learning management system for registered participants, but the sessions will not be recorded. Participants will need to plan to be available for the virtual meetings from 8 am to 4:30 pm CST.

The course is designed for pet food company employees in roles such as formulation, new product development, quality control, marketing, procurement, ingredient supplying, equipment manufacturing, technical and sales positions, students, and new company startups in the pet food industry.

Participants will learn about various aspects of pet food formulation, including the nutritional requirements and recommendations for dogs and cats, regulatory and labeling standards, raw material functionality, processing across different pet food formats and meeting packaging claims.

Upon completing this course, students will be proficient in formulating pet food products of various formats and will have a solid foundation in ingredients, processing techniques and the software necessary for developing new products. They will also learn to refine existing formulas and perform business and production analyses. Participants will benefit from knowledge provided by Kansas State University faculty and also industry experts, who will bring a wealth of fundamental and practical knowledge in the art of pet food formulation.
