Through its U.S. entity, Scholtus Petcare, Scholtus Group, a pet nutrition company based in the Netherlands, has expanded its global manufacturing capabilities through its acquisition of Georgia-based Big Creek Foods, a U.S. producer of premium pet treats. The acquisition integrates Big Creek Foods’ state-of-the-art facility in Gainesville, Florida, into Scholtus’ extensive production network, enabling the combined company to offer a wide range of products including air-dried and semi-moist pet treat and food products.

Founded in 2014, Big Creek Foods specializes in air-dried treats, whole-muscle jerky, and semi-moist and functional pet nutrition products. Scholtus focuses on high-quality pet snacks for cats and dogs, including training treats, dental chews, soft chews, sticks and pet supplements formulated with functional ingredients. The company primarily produces its pet food products in the Netherlands, with its main production facilities located in Renswoude, Helmond and Gouda.

Jan Smulders, MD of Scholtus noted the acquisition of Big Creek Foods strengthens Scholtus’ offering, allowing the next stage of development for both companies by increasing the pace for new product introductions and accelerating the expansion in new distribution channels in the U.S. and Europe.

Tommy Gay, owner and CEO of Big Creek Foods, added, "Big Creek Foods has continued to invest in capacity and technology, adding three additional smokehouses just this past year. Scholtus will further expand the production and invest in new production technology. Big Creek Foods will be able to offer existing and new clients a much broader product portfolio."
