Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders visited Simmons Foods’ operations in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, as part of her “Capital for a Day” observance.

Sanders proclaimed Siloam Springs as the state’s ceremonial temporary capital on June 30. In a proclamation on her website, Sanders noted, “… Siloam Springs is also home to John Brown University, the Kansas City Southern railroad, Simmons Foods – an Arkansas-founded company – and the Siloam Springs Museum, which has been preserving the city’s history since 1969.”

According to a LinkedIn post from Simmons Foods, Sanders toured it’s Benton County operations and “met the people who make food for the families and pets we love.”

“CEO Todd Simmons and members of the Simmons leadership team welcomed the governor and her cabinet for a conversation about the role agriculture plays in Arkansas's economy, and in communities like ours across northwest Arkansas,” the post read.

Sanders also shared several posts on X about the experience, including a video that showed footage of her touring a Simmons Foods facility.

“It was incredible to visit with so many people in this community and talk about our shared vision for Arkansas - we stopped for coffee, met with the largest employer in town, held a packed out meet and greet, did a few interviews, hosted a couple of roundtables and even caught some whitewater rafting too,” Sanders posted.

Simmons Foods is the 13th largest poultry producer in the United States, according to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database. It is also a major producer of feed and pet food.

Sanders is seeking a second term as governor. Her present term began with her inauguration on January 10, 2023. She is a second-generation Arkansas governor, with her father, Mike Huckabee, serving in that capacity from 1996 to 2007.

From 2017 to 2019, Sanders worked for the federal government as White House press secretary.
