Purina's Petfinder mark 30 years with meal drive

Digital actions on Petfinder.com will fund up to 6 million meals for shelter pets and two rescue flights relocating more than 100 animals to adoption-ready communities.

Petfinder is celebrating its 30th anniversary by launching a campaign that funds up to 6 million meals for shelter pets and rescue flights for animals in overcrowded shelters through November 16, with every digital action on the platform contributing to the donations.

  • Petfinder's 30-year anniversary campaign will fund up to 6 million meals (roughly 1.5 million pounds of pet food) for shelter pets through November 16
  • Digital actions that count toward donations include favoriting a pet's profile (1 meal), creating an adopter profile (1 meal), and submitting an adoption inquiry (full day of meals)
  • The campaign includes Runway to Forever, which relocates over 100 pets from high-intake shelters to communities with better adoption chances via rescue flights
  • Since 1996, Petfinder has facilitated 40 million adoptions across more than 12,000 shelters and rescue groups nationwide
  • Partnership with Greater Good Charities funds the meal donations and rescue flights to support vulnerable, harder-to-place animals

Petfinder is marking its 30th anniversary with a campaign to fund meals for shelter pets and support rescue flights for animals in overcrowded shelters, the company announced.

Until Nov. 16, digital actions taken on Petfinder.com — including favoriting a pet's profile, creating an adopter profile and submitting an adoption inquiry form — will count toward a donation of up to 6 million meals, or roughly 1.5 million pounds of pet food.

Favoriting a pet's profile provides one meal for a shelter pet, creating an adopter profile provides one meal for a shelter pet, and submitting an adoption inquiry form provides a full day of meals, according to Petfinder. Donated meals vary based on product availability, and meal size is based on feeding recommendations for a medium-sized dog and an average cat.

The campaign also includes "Runway to Forever," an initiative funded in partnership with Greater Good Charities that is relocating more than 100 pets from overcrowded, high-intake shelters to communities where they have a greater chance of adoption. The initiative includes two rescue flights.

"Thirty years ago, Petfinder had a simple idea: make it easier for pets and people to find each other," said Kristen Beckerle, brand director for Petfinder. "Over three decades, Petfinder helped turn that idea into a movement, reshaping the entire companion animal landscape, turning countless hopeful searches into wagging tails, happy homecomings and a new standard for how people find their next best friend.

"As Petfinder celebrates 30 years of happy tails, we wanted to take the opportunity to give back to the pets still waiting, not just celebrate the ones who've already found their way home," she added.

"At Greater Good Charities, we know small actions add up to real change," said Jeremy Colborn, director of transport for Greater Good Charities. "Through this 30-year celebration with Petfinder, every meal funded and every mile flown helps vulnerable, harder-to-place pets who need it most, and that's exactly the kind of collective effort that fuels our mission to amplify the good for communities globally. We're so happy to partner with them in this campaign to provide millions of meals and lifesaving flights to animals nationwide."

Since 1996, Petfinder has facilitated 40 million adoptions across more than 12,000 shelters and rescue groups nationwide, according to the company.
