Panzi-Pet expands dog food range and sales

Panzi-Pet, a Hungarian pet food maker, is introducing a line of affordable dry dog food, hoping to attract customers in an increasingly competitive market.

Amid a rising demand for the company’s products, Hungarian pet food producer Panzi-Pet is introducing a line of affordable dry dog food, hoping to attract customers in an increasingly competitive market. 

Panzi-Pet specializes in dry dog and cat food, and its portfolio includes products for different market segments ranging from economy to grain-free superpremium products, said Tamás Pandzarisz, managing director. The company also produces treats and snacks, including dental sticks, meaty snacks, stuffed pillows, meat rolls and training snacks, among others.

Significant pet food sales increases

“We increased our sales significantly in 2022 compared to the previous year,” Pandzarisz said. “This is due to the expansion of our product portfolio in Hungary-based retail chains such as Fressnapf, Tesco and Auchan” (the local franchises).

Pandzarisz said that, after the company decided in 2021 to significantly expand its portfolio within the wet pet food range, last year marked an “enormous product development” period. “We launched brand new dog and cat cans in 415-gram, 800-gram and 1.24-kilogram alutrays, and also introduced pouch products to the market under the brand of Julius-K9,” he explained.

“Of course, the trends that are observed globally were taking place in our domestic market as well: downgrading, households saving money, increased interest in inexpensive products, decreasing brand loyalty,” Pandzarisz added. “This was largely due to the economic consequences of the spillover effect of the Russian-Ukranian war, but we adapted ourselves to the rapidly changing circumstances.”

Key pet food export markets

Regarding Panzi-Pet’s export sales, Pandzarisz said that, in addition to the Hungarian market, the pet food specialist ships its products to more than 30 countries across the world. Some of Panzi-Pet’s key export markets are European Union member states, including Belgium, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Spain. 

The company is also making efforts to boost its presence in the Middle East, selling products in countries such as Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai and Kuwait. Panzi-Pet exports to China, too, as well as various African states, supplying its output to countries such as Ivory Coast, Niger, Libya, and Gabon, Pandzarisz said.
