Pet Lovers Centre (PLC) Malaysia has begun its 4th Annual Pet Food Drive 2019, with a collection target of 3,600 kg of pet food through donations. To benefit stray cats and dogs, PLC has partnered with four animal shelters to provide its inventory at lowered prices, running the campaign till December 31. As of December 15, the company has been able to collect 1,526 kg, under its corporate social responsibility initiatives. Last year, the company was able to donate 2,895 kg of pet food to animal shelters in Malaysia.

Founded in 1973 in Singapore, PLC has grown to become the largest pet care retail chain in Southeast Asia. In 2009, the company established the Pet Lovers Foundation to provide assistance to animal welfare organizations. With the most recent pet food drive in Malaysia, PLC-based donations will benefit animal shelters across the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru, through Paws Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Save a Stray Animal Malaysia, Cat Beach Sanctuary and Homeless and Orphan Pets Exist.

Animal adoption advocacy and delivery

“As a brand principle, Pet Lovers Centre is constantly on the lookout for further opportunities to expand our efforts of placing adoption first,” said PLC Malaysia operations director Bryan Boo in a press release.

Those efforts have seen PLC allocate 125 square feet of commercial space in SS2 Central since 2014 as a permanent adoption center for abandoned pets, from where pet food drives are run, in partnership with PAWS. SS2 Central is an affluent suburb of Petaling Jaya, one of Malaysia’s most developed cities. The Adopt 1st Centre there is aimed at building empathy within the country’s culture of pet abandonment and casual ownership.

PLC has 139 outlets in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines that seek to balance quality and value for the Southeast Asian market. The company provides additional services: veterinary, grooming, adoption and training for dogs, cats, small pets, fish, birds and reptiles. It has been recognized for its excellence, winning the Singapore Quality Class 2019, World Branding Awards – Animal Edition – Singapore and Influential Brands Top Awards 2019 for Pet Services and Products. In May 2020, the company will be participating at Interzoo in Nuremberg, Germany.
