Spain’s Picart Petcare has launched a revamped line of cat food cans under the Picart Select Extra Care Wet range.

In a statement, the Spanish pet food business said that the overhaul will enable Picart Petcare “to adapt our products to market trends and demands, but also to our ongoing commitment to provide furry cats with food that promotes their well-being and health.”

“In addition to the formula improvements, the packaging of our new Picart Select Cat WET cans has been completely redesigned. One of the great benefits of this restyling is that the design is now aligned with the packaging of the Picart Select Extra Care dry range,” according to the manufacturer.

Set up in 1953 and based in Barcelona, Picart Petcare offers a wide range of dog and cat food products. Last year, the company opened a new plant. The production facility is located in Can Prat, in Spain’s autonomous community of Catalonia.

Polish dog treat maker to expand offer

Poland’s RF Deer specializes in dog treats made of moose and roe deer, and is currently making efforts to expand its product portfolio.

“We source our raw material in Poland, and we sell it across the European Union which is our primary market,” Rafał Foik, the chief executive of RF Deer, told Petfoodindustry.com. “We have had great feedback on our dog treats from customers, and now we want to introduce new products to our portfolio.”

As part of its expansion plans, RF Deer wants to roll out a range of dog chews with probiotics. In the long-term, the company aims to launch its own brand of insect-based pet food, according to its owner.

“Right now, we are involved in white labeling activities, and also in selling our output under our own brand. In the future, we want to invest in our brand, RF Deer, to boost its recognition in Poland and also a number of European markets,” Foik said. “Introducing new products to the range will help us achieve this goal.”

RF Deer says it is a family-owned business based in Gliwice, in Poland’s south-western part.

Vafo Group invests in new storage facility

Czech pet food maker Vafo Group has launched the company’s third warehouse in the Czech Republic. Located in Panattoni Park Zdice, the new 12,000 sq. meter (129,200 sq. ft) facility will enable the pet food business to store packaging materials as well as dry ingredients.

“The strategic location near our production sites, just over 100 kilometers from the German border and close to the D5 highway, offers excellent access to key European markets, ensuring streamlined logistics and distribution,” Vafo Group said in a statement.

The value of the latest investment was not disclosed.

“Our new warehouse is part of an industrial zone with a strong focus on sustainability. The building is equipped with a rainwater retention system, contributing to efficient water management and reinforcing our commitment to environmentally responsible operations,” according to the pet food maker.

Vafo Group stated that the new Czech warehouse marks a significant step to meet the growing global demand for the company’s products “while staying aligned with our sustainability goals.”

Earlier this year, the pet food producer celebrated its 30th anniversary.

“In the three decades since its founding in 1994, VAFO has grown into a globally recognized powerhouse of superpremium pet food brands. In 2023, the group boasted sales of some 490 million euros [or US$529 million], representing an astounding one-fifth increase over the year previous,” according to the statement.

Vafo Group says it exports its output to more than 90 countries across the world which ranks it sixth among Europe’s top ten largest pet food makers.

Some of the group’s leading pet food brands include Brit, Carnilove, Pooch & Mutt, as well as Hau-Hau Champion, as indicated by data from the Czech business.
