J.M. Smucker promotes John Brase to president and COO

Brase will continue overseeing pet food and other retail segments while expanding his leadership role in external and strategic initiatives.

Brase will maintain his oversight of the company’s U.S. Retail Pet Foods business, along with its Coffee, Frozen Handheld and Spreads, Sweet Baked Snacks, and International and Away From Home segments. He will also continue leading sales, operations and supply chain functions. In his expanded role, Brase will take on additional external responsibilities, including engagement with industry associations and stakeholders to broaden the company’s influence. He will continue reporting to Mark Smucker, chair of the board and CEO.

“This promotion acknowledges the breadth of John's responsibilities and the positive impact he's had on our business performance over the past five years,” said Smucker. “It also supports the ongoing development of our executive talent, as we continue to position the organization for long-term growth and success.”

Brase has served as COO since 2020 and joined Smucker with over 30 years of experience in consumer goods. His background includes leadership across brand management, manufacturing, marketing and sales.

Since joining the company, Brase has played a key role in shaping strategic priorities and operational improvements. He led the creation of Smucker’s transformation office, which has driven cost savings and productivity gains to support reinvestment in growth areas.
