Graduate student builds dog nutrition calculator that adds up to good pet health

Graduate student builds dog nutrition calculator to assess a pet's needs.

A graduate student and dog lover, Maria Kluziak recently created a Dog Nutrition Calculator based on a new algorithm developed by Dr. Olga Lasek, a PhD, who’s spent 14 years as an expert in optimizing animal nutrition. It’s an easy-to-use tool that calculates how much food your pet needs based on its activity level and weight, and shows how long their food supplies will last. Thus, striking a perfect balance between weight and current activity levels to ensure quantity of food is optimal for your pup's needs.

Kluziak built this tool using the Omni Calculator Project’s platform. It’s part of their whopping collection of 1258 calculators, all aimed at solving everyday problems. In this case, the Dog Nutrition Calculator aims to solve dog obesity - a looming problem with first-time dog parents. Kluziak also provided some tips on keeping your pup healthy, based on her research. “Whether you're a long-time dog owner, or a member of the surprising pandemic-related dog adoption boom, you will definitely find it useful.”, says Kluziak.

Maria Kluziak is a graduating master’s student of Cognitive Studies at Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland. She regularly contributes to the Omni Calculator Project, a worldwide initiative composed of researchers, scientists, doctors, and PhD students trying to make math and science more accessible to ordinary people. She’s a proud pawrent of Fletcher, a rescue dog who’s turning 7 years old this year. While Dr Eng. Olga Lasek is a researcher and professor at the University of Agriculture in Cracow. She has been teaching for 14 years, and is currently an adjunct at the Department of Animal Nutrition, Faculty of Animal Breeding and Animal Biology.
