Mid America Pet Food executives said they don’t have more pet food company acquisitions planned following the company’s purchase of Nature’s Logic. Earlier this month, Mid America Pet Food announced the acquisition of Nature’s Logic premium pet products.
“We do not have current plans for more acquisitions,” Greg Cyr, CEO of Mid America Pet Food, said. “Mid America Pet Food has experienced strong year-over-year growth the past few years, and as we welcome Nature’s Logic to our family of brands, our first priority is continuing to offer the superpremium nutrition pet parents expect from us.”
Influences on pet food business
The ongoing pandemic has influenced many aspects of life, including pet food purchasing behaviors. The pandemic fueled spikes in sales early in 2020, followed by retail channel shifts. Likewise pet ownership increased in many nations, including the U.S., especially among households with income available to spend on pets.
“While both brands continued strong growth in 2020 and 2021, the pandemic was not the driving force behind the acquisition,” Cyr said.
In December 2020, Mid America Pet Food was purchased by TA Associates, a US-based private equity firm.
“The excellent support we get from TA Associates has provided us the opportunity to focus on how we can continue to fuel growth for Mid America Pet Food while allowing our team, who are all leaders within their space, to operate the day-to-day business as we always have - with the vision of enriching the lives of pet families,” Cyr said.
Founded in 2006, Nature’s Logic offers natural, premium quality pet food and treats that contain no synthetic vitamins. Nature’s Logic was named a Top 20 most sustainable brand in the pet industry by the Pet Sustainability Coalition.
“Nature’s Logic brings an exciting expertise and leadership position within sustainability in the pet space to the Mid America Pet Food family of brands,” Cyr said. “We look forward to continuing to support Nature’s Logic’s push towards sustainability and are welcoming the opportunity to integrate similar practices into Mid America Pet Food’s business.”
